Cap'n Jonny's 1986 Motiv Sonora Restoration
If you follow my bike repair stories, you know that I am a sucker for bright shiny objects. Black is cool, but dayglow orange or any other bright color is more my thing.
I walked past this bike at the Bike Exchange for a couple of weeks. It was definitely my style, but a bit ragged-looking, and I was still working on the Electra Tattoo bike, so I let the Motiv sit.
Cap'n Jonny's Tattoo Bike Restoration
Our homework hero Cap'n Jonny shared how he restored a dirty and neglected Electra Cruiser into a one-of-a-kind bike that's sure to bring joy to its new owner in its new forever home. He writes:
At the Bike Exchange, I usually work on vintage race or mountain bikes, upgrading and modernizing them. Ever since I did my Calvin and Hobbes tribute bike, though, I have wanted to hotrod another cruiser. While online, I saw a set of vintage sailor tattoo stickers, and the tattoo bike idea was born.
Featured Bike: 1953 Elswick Hopper, Restored by Cap'n Jonny
Established at the dawn of the bicycle era, Elswick was a major British bicycle manufacturer for many decades, providing high quality utility bicycles for the domestic and international market. Cap'n Jonny continued the loving care given to this Elswick Hopper by its donor, to restore the bike for its new home.
