If you've enjoyed some fresh-brewed coffee at the Bike Exchange, most likely Mary brought it. She's been volunteering for about 1 1/2 years and has regularly been bringing coffee to wake up the volunteers. Over this time, she's learned a lot of new bike maintenance skills and has gained the confidence to try to fix things on her own before asking for help. You also may find her 4-year-old daughter, Meroe, volunteering with her.
Mary grew up in Vermont where they had a similar bicycle repair organization which prompted her interest when she moved here. You can ask her about some of the amazing bike trips she's taken with her husband - from Cape Town, South Africa to Cairo, Egypt and from Cusco, Peru to Ushuaia, Argentina.
