SVBE Spring Parking Lot Bike Sale – Saturday, March 29

The Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange (SVBE) is hosting its Spring Parking Lot Bike Sale on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. This sale is a great opportunity to find a quality refurbished bike at a bargain price, while supporting a nonprofit dedicated to bicycle reuse and donation.

Exciting News: BikeX Expands Shop Hours!

Bicycle Exchange is thrilled to announce that we are expanding our operating hours! With the addition of our new Service Manager, Robbin Andersson, we are now officially open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and every other Saturday.
Expanding our hours means more opportunities for our community to access quality bikes, parts, and service—whether you're a retail buyer looking for your perfect ride or a volunteer eager to lend a hand. By staying open longer and adding new appointment slots, we’re making it easier for both customers and volunteers to engage with BikeX, and we hope to see you soon!
Starting immediately, our shop will open at 11:00 am each weekday and close at 5:30 pm; and open on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays at 10:00 am and close at 3:00 pm.

For 32 years, Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange (SVBE) has been driven by the passion and dedication of our volunteers, staff and community. We've always strived to make a positive impact, and now, we're thrilled to take a significant step towards greater transparency and vision.
We're proud to announce the release of our first-ever Annual Report and Annual Plan! These documents represent a culmination of collaborative effort, spearheaded by our dedicated Program Manager, Kelly Boyett and the entire SVBE team.

Many thanks to all of our volunteers and staff who helped us surpass our goal of 800 bikes repaired and donated in 2024. You all made it possible to get bikes to 818 individuals of all ages and backgrounds rolling to jobs, school, errands, medical appointments, and recreation.

Well, “Taco Tuesday” was already taken and “Waco Wednesday” didn’t sound good, nor did most other days, so “Thaco Thursday” was the only logical choice!

Introducing SVBE's Newest Board Member: Katy Tripp

Katy Tripp joined the Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange Board of Directors in March. Katy is a much needed and welcome addition because she brings experience in both accounting and nonprofit auditing. SVBE outgrew its own accounting system about 5 years ago and now both Ross Stovall and Katy are redesigning it so that it will cost less time to enter data and will easily pass an external audit; both of these are essential to SVBE’s continued ability to grow. In addition to her CPA and auditing work, Katy has also worked for the past 6 years as a Business Controller/Finance Program Manager.

Featured Bike: 1953 Elswick Hopper, Restored by Cap'n Jonny

Established at the dawn of the bicycle era, Elswick was a major British bicycle manufacturer for many decades, providing high quality utility bicycles for the domestic and international market. Cap'n Jonny continued the loving care given to this Elswick Hopper by its donor, to restore the bike for its new home.

Featured Bike: 1966 Schwinn Varsity, Restored by Cap'n Jonny

Recently, Cap'n Jonny brought home a 36.6 pound gold 1966 Schwinn Varsity with roached paint to use as a base for a weight weenie build he was anxious to try. In the end he just put it on a diet and did some strength training. Read about his process in his tale below.
